The 6th DELTA-Joint Oil Spill Exercise was conducted in coastal sea area of Weihai, Shandong Province, China on 14 July 2016, according to the decision of the 18th NOWPAP MERRAC Focal Points Meeting.
The NOWPAP joint oil spill (DELTA) exercises have been conducted on a regular and rotational basis by the NOWPAP members, to increase the level of preparedness in the NOWPAP region for joint oil spill response within the framework of the NOWPAP Regional Oil and HNS Spill Contingency Plan (RCP).
Especially, the 6th Exercise was organized by China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) and co-organized by Korea Coast Guard (KCG) in cooperation with NOWPAP MERRAC and was conducted in accordance with the exercise scenario prepared by China. Experts from Japan and Russia also took part in the Exercise as observers.
A total of 18 vessels, 1 rescue helicopter, 2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and 400 personnel were mobilized by China MSA, and KCG also provided assistance by dispatching 1 specific oil spill response vessel and 13 staffs to the Exercise.
The Exercise was successfully held and contributed to enhancement of the joint oil spill response capabilities in the NOWPAP region and reinforcement of cooperation among the NOWPAP members for prompt and effective response during major oil spill incidents that may occur in the region.
